Worked planning example
The 30, 60 and 90 L capacities are editable volume assumptions, not standard sizes shared by every supplier. Check the actual box's internal dimensions or stated capacity. If a box measures 40 × 30 × 25 cm inside, its geometric volume is 30 L before allowing for contents and packing material.
Small boxes for heavy contents
Books, tins, tools and other dense items become difficult to lift in large cartons. A smaller double-wall box can be easier to carry and stack safely.
Larger boxes for light contents
Bedding, cushions and lampshades need volume without much weight. Fill empty space so contents cannot shift, but do not crush delicate items.

Small boxes suit dense contents because a large volume of books or tools can become difficult to lift. The worked example assigns 0.3 m³ of heavy contents to 30 L boxes and adds a 10% reserve, giving eleven small boxes. Volume alone does not establish a safe load: follow the box maker's guidance.
How do I compare box capacities in litres and cubic metres?
1 m³ equals 1,000 L. A 60 L box has a nominal capacity of 0.06 m³, so 0.8 m³ of general contents divided by 0.06 gives 13.33 boxes before allowance. The worked 10% allowance then rounds the requirement to fifteen medium boxes; usable packing space can differ from external dimensions.
Should I use the largest box for everything?
No. Choose capacity together with contents weight, protection and the manufacturer's load guidance. Larger boxes can suit bedding and other light bulky items, while smaller ones limit the amount of dense contents in a single lift. Check handling and stacking in your actual move rather than using nominal volume as a safety rating.
