Use the calculator as a baseline
Room and household counts give a practical starting estimate, but a library, workshop or long-established loft can add far more volume than an average room.
Split the estimate by size
Use smaller boxes for dense items such as books and larger boxes for light bulky items such as bedding. Too many large boxes encourage unsafe loading.
Retain a reserve
Keep a small number of flat spare boxes for late discoveries and awkward items. Avoid opening every bundle before you know it is needed.
Practical checklist
- Do not exceed the box manufacturer's load guidance.
- Recalculate after decluttering substantial volumes.
