Concrete Volume Explained

Calculate cubic metres for slabs and understand depth, waste and bag yield.

Measure length, width and finished depth first

Record every relevant dimension in the same unit and separate irregular sections. Small measuring errors multiply across an entire project, so check each figure before adding a waste allowance.

Convert depth before multiplying

When length and width are in metres, convert centimetres of depth to metres. Multiply the three dimensions to obtain cubic metres.

Bag yield and ready-mix

Dry-mix bag yield varies by product. For larger structural work, compare the total volume with ready-mix delivery constraints and seek professional design advice where required.

Practical checklist

  • Never reduce a specified structural depth to save material.
  • Confirm access and placement before delivery.
