Convert Celsius and Fahrenheit exactly, with a separate conventional/fan setting estimate and gas-mark reference.
What does a worked calculation look like?
180 °C is exactly 180 × 9 ÷ 5 + 32 = 356 °F. Using the default 20 °C fan adjustment, a conventional 180 °C setting corresponds to about 160 °C in a fan oven, and the nearest chart setting is gas mark 4.
Method and practical checks
Celsius and Fahrenheit conversion is exact. Oven-type adjustment is not: follow an explicit recipe or appliance setting when available.
Gas marks are approximate chart settings, not a linear scale. The nearest chart entry is shown only within the supported range, alongside its conventional temperature.
Supported range: 0 to 1000 degrees in the chosen scale, for oven settings only. Values below 0, such as freezer temperatures, are rejected rather than converted.

The reference chart uses rounded cooking settings. They are not exact Celsius/Fahrenheit equivalents.
Worked example
180 °C is exactly 180 × 9 ÷ 5 + 32 = 356 °F. Using the default 20 °C fan adjustment, a conventional 180 °C setting corresponds to about 160 °C in a fan oven, and the nearest chart setting is gas mark 4.

Reading the result
Celsius–Fahrenheit conversion is exact; the fan adjustment and gas marks are not. Recipes written for a fan oven should be used as written.
Gas mark 1 is 275 °F and each mark above adds 25 °F. Published Celsius values are rounded, so charts differ by a few degrees (gas mark 3 appears as 160 °C or 170 °C).
Ovens vary. An oven thermometer shows whether yours runs hot or cold before you rely on any converted setting.
180 °C is 356 °F: multiply Celsius by 9 ÷ 5, then add 32. That mathematical conversion is exact. A fan-oven adjustment and a gas-mark comparison are separate approximations, so check whether the original recipe already specifies a fan oven.
Is the fan adjustment a universal rule?
No. The editable adjustment is a starting assumption for oven settings. Appliances and recipes differ, and a recipe written for a fan oven should normally keep its stated setting. Use the appliance instructions and an oven thermometer rather than treating the estimate as a guaranteed cooking result.
Should I round 356 °F to an oven dial setting?
356 °F is the exact conversion of 180 °C, but your oven may only offer marked increments. Select the setting appropriate to the recipe and appliance rather than changing the formula. The calculator separates the mathematical conversion from approximate fan adjustments and gas marks; those are different decisions.
