Calculate savings and final price, including an optional second discount.

Shopping and household planning tools

What does a worked calculation look like?

A 20% discount on 100 takes the price to 80. Adding a second 10% discount applies to 80, giving 72, so the effective discount is 28%, not 30%.

Example with the pre-filled values

Total saving: 20 · Final price: 80 · Effective discount (%): 20

How the Discount Calculator works

Formula

  • Price after the first discount = original price × (1 − discount ÷ 100).
  • Final price = that price × (1 − additional discount ÷ 100); effective discount = (1 − final price ÷ original price) × 100.

Assumptions and limits

  • Sequential discounts are applied one after another, not added together.

Worked example

A 20% discount on 100 takes the price to 80. Adding a second 10% discount applies to 80, giving 72, so the effective discount is 28%, not 30%.

Reading the result

Are 20% off and then 10% off equal to 30% off?

No. Starting at 100, the first discount gives 80 and the second gives 72, a total saving of 28%. Each percentage acts on the remaining price. Add fixed savings only in the order specified by the actual offer. Check the actual offer conditions. Check the actual offer conditions.

What does three for the price of two save?

For equal-priced items, paying for two and receiving three reduces the price per item by one third, about 33.3%. This assumes you use all three. Check which items qualify and whether a cheaper single pack better matches the quantity you need.

Does the discount result include delivery or other charges?

Only amounts represented by the chosen mode and entered fields are included. Compare the final payable price after adding any actual delivery charges, fees or conditions outside that calculation. Keep the original price and the saving distinct so that a large advertised percentage does not obscure the amount you will pay.
